Hey, I’m Scott Valdez, the founder of VIDA Select.
Before starting VIDA in 2009, I was another suit in the cubicle trenches, shackled to a desk, dreaming of finding love in between endless work marathons. The usual suspects - bars, setups, serendipity - all led to dead ends.
Then, like a stroke of fate, a magazine ad leaped out at me. An upscale matchmaking service offering the stars. The price? My entire year-end bonus. The result? A parade of blind dates that missed the mark by a mile.
As it turned out, their “exclusive” rolodex didn’t actually have matches that checked my boxes. But there was a silver lining: all those mismatched setups and failed dates planted the seed for what would become VIDA.
See, back then, Match, POF, and OkCupid were beginning to boom, drawing in far more singles than all of the traditional matchmakers combined.
And I was convinced that this was a much better rolodex—if only I could make it work.
But I was never taught how to optimally present myself in a modern dating context. I was flying blind, fumbling around for the right pictures and words that would sell my story.

Like a fish out of water, I floundered. But I had friends who were getting great results and I was determined to find success for myself too. So I snapped into action with a marketer's mindset – testing, refining, and completely overhauling my approach.
I spent the next 6 months meticulously testing different messages, bios, and photos to pinpoint what clicked and what fizzled. And I finally started getting dates with women I was excited to meet instead of settling for those who didn't quite check my boxes.
Sounds good, right? Until a new problem emerged… Between my heavy workload and the countless hours I was spending on dating platforms, I just couldn't keep up. Dating had turned into a second job – without the paycheck.
Then it hit me like a flash of lightning: Why couldn't an expert just do it all for me?
After placing several job ads, I found Mike, a gifted writer with a knack for online dating. Mike burned the midnight oil refining my approach, and the results soared to new heights.
Soon enough, Mike even set me up with a woman I liked so much I deleted my profiles and started a relationship that ended up lasting for several years.
